Martijn Weiffenbach,  b. 1956 ‘s-Gravenhage, Netherlands.

Oil painting came to me as a late expression. I studied visual communication in Utrecht, was accepted at the Art Academy in Maastricht, and eventually chose to study history at the VU in Amsterdam. I stopped with the latter after a year and ended up in the advertising world. I worked as an art director for several advertising agencies such as Saatchi & Saatchi, JWT, TBWA, Publicis, etc... During my career I was nominated for award-winning works, both nationally and internationally. At the moment I am the co-owner of the advertising agency Welcomm.

In addition to creating concepts, illustrations and design has always been an important part of advertising for me. I decided to apply this experience as a basis for making oil paintings on panel. With a quiet preference for still lives.

Oil painting is a totally different experience than the quick sketches and illustrations that I do at a professional level. In particular, time and patience are important factors that play big role. That is why I am usually approaching 2 or 3 paintings at the same time.
